Gambling Is Not For Profit

While gambling can be fun, it should not be viewed as a means of making money. Rather, gamblers should consider it as a form of entertainment, similar to the cinema. Gambling companies are not one-man shows; they have real employees, from odds compilers to marketing and public relations staff. These people are not there to help you win money, but rather to ensure that they get their share of the profit. In order to stay in business, gambling companies need big profit margins and turnover.

The word ‘gambling’ comes from the Latin ‘to chance’ and ‘to try one’s luck’. In the United States, ‘gambling’ is regulated at state level and there are federal laws to protect players.

In addition, there are national organizations to help people with gambling problems and there are also inpatient and residential treatment and rehab programs for those who cannot quit on their own.

Many people gamble as a way to soothe unpleasant feelings, relieve boredom or socialize. But there are healthier and more effective ways to do this, such as exercising, spending time with friends who don’t gamble, or practicing relaxation techniques.
